How does an altar work in rituals

What is an altar?

An altar is a commonly used thing in rituals. It is your own place to do rituals with, on or in. It's really personal.

Below you see an altar in Thailand.

Some altars, like this photo, are used to feed spirits so that they don't get mad at you or work for you. Some people believe in that. But usually an altar is used to wish to manifest.

How do you perform an altar ritual?

As you can see in the photo above, there are many things on the altar. Mainly food and drink. But as you can see in this picture:

such altars are used for other purposes, for manifestation† You manifest by adding an action with a natural element to your wishes. Usually one or more of the elements used. In this photo you see fire, but you can also use earth or water. Personally, I often use soil.

The money that can be seen in this photo, not my photo by the way, is used to manifest wishes about money. This is allowed, it becomes impure if one adds impure elements to it, such as a piece of a dead animal† Fortunately, rituals often involve completely different things. Think of overcoming uncertainty or trying to manage a birth in the right direction. You focus the energy on good things for good purposes† But some also use it for evil purposes, such as a voodoo doll mixed with that bit of the dead animal and other impure elements. They do this to hurt someone or influence someone's will.

Make your own altar?

You can make an altar yourself by starting with your intention: what do you want from it? Attract? shield?

An altar needs at least one thing and those are the 1 elements. 5 was spirit: your goal. 1 to 2 are: water, fire, air and earth† Water because it stands for flow in life, fire in general for protection. Air represents the invisible (spiritual) and earth represents the ground on which we live. They don't have to be special ingredients. It depends on your goal. If you want to make progress, pay extra attention to water. If you want to contact a deceased person, pay extra attention to something that belonged to them.
